Merthyr Cynog is a small hamlet and community nestled in the Brecknockshire heart of Powys, Wales, located about seven miles northwest of Brecon. Local governance is overseen by Merthyr Cynog Community Council which serves both the hamlet and the surrounding rural area. Community Hall
Situated in Upper Chapel, Merthyr Cynog Community Hall offers a spacious venue with kitchen, stage, projector, and Wi-Fi – ideal for private or community events. It is fully accessible with modern facilities, including a refurbished conference room.

History, culture & landscape
The name Merthyr Cynog is derived from the construction of a church during the 5th Century to honour Cynog ap Brychan, also known as Saint Cynog, the son of the legendary Brychan Brycheinog.
